Housing Energy Advisors Training
Launches 9th November

Latest news

21st October 2009 - Homes in fuel poverty projected to rise to 4.6m in 2009, grim reading! But not surprising given the rise in fuel prices of about 80% in the last 5 years, and at the same time OFGEM are predicting similar rises to come.

DECC released its fuel poverty statistics today:

Thank you for your patience, we had to delay our original training dates while we waited for the release of the ABBE HEA qualification; this is due on the 1st November, but regardless of this we are proceeding with our training on HEA as we have a number of business needs that require an expansion of assessment team initially in some London boroughs; we have also included a number of questions that we have been asked by energy assessors, and we have answered these as best we can.

London sees the launch of 10 Homes Energy Efficiency Programmes (HEEP) starting in November 2009; these are demonstration programmes which include the provision of Housing Energy advice. Fuel poverty is a rising at an unprecedented rate, we believe that the HEEP initiatives will become a key driver in combating fuel poverty nationally.

Our training programme launches on November 09th 2009 in the following locations and on the indicated dates:

H.E.A.T. Medics (Home Energy Advisors Team)

We have a website available with further details of our delivery programme at: www.hea-epc.co.uk. This website is an interim site to provide some immediate information for clients, and the site will be developed further with details of our local H.E.A.T. Medics as we progress forward.

Once you have trained with us, you then have the opportunity to join the team if you wish to do so; we will be promoting the H.E.A.T. Medics programme to all local authorities and other appropriate organisations and utilities, we are already involve in a number of HEEP tendering processes. We will also provide marketing materials and H.E.A.T. jackets to team members at no charge.

We will be providing an advanced HEA programme for clients, with the aim of making a significant impact on the energy efficiency of both the property and the householder’s fuel costs.

Beyond the ABBE Level 3, we will be providing further training to HEAs who we take into our H.E.A.T. Medics to encompass Decent Homes Standard & Housing Health & Safety Rating System Training, installation of small energy efficiency measures and renewable technologies; there will be no charge to H.E.A.T. members for this, it will form part of our delivery programme.

What other avenues of work are available to me as a HEA?

If you have existing or recent projects that you have worked on such as social housing EPC programmes, then your local authority or housing association client may require your services again. Remember that going forward there are anticipated to be a requirement for 5.5m home energy audits across the private and social housing sectors, with a targeted installation of 3.5m data readers, or a combination of the two.

If you want to put together your own offering around the content of this programme, then we can help you with this including the supply of energy efficiency product.

What about the Community Energy Advisor role?

This is essentially a role with the Carbon Energy Savings Programme (CESP) it is a much smaller programme than CERT and is heavily driven through utilities; it is still unclear to us as to the real levels of work that will be available to advisors; we will keep you informed as this becomes clearer.
